Curved windows are an excellent choice for base of optical elements for reflective and refractive optical elements. To optimize the performance usually metallic or dielectric thin-film coatings are applied. Metallic coatings are often used where uniform reflectivity over wide spectral range is required. A big advantage of dielectric thin-film mirrors over metallic is that the reflectivity and laser-induced damage threshold characteristics are significantly better. What is more, AR dielectric thin film coatings are also used on refractive optical elements to reduce the optical reflectivity of an optical surface in a certain wavelength range.
