Dispersion prisms have properties of spectral dispersion, therefore prisms are used in incident light separation applications. Due to the chromatic dispersion of the material, the beam deflection angle becomes wavelength dependent and incident light is separated into its component wavelengths. For instance, when the white light enters dispersion prism, it is separated into its components: red, green and blue.
